Getting to Trancoso from Porto Seguro Airport
The nearest airport is Porto Seguro Airport (BPS), the primary entry point for visitors arriving from other states. From the airport, you can reach Trancoso by car, bus, taxi, Uber, or private transfer. Depending on the chosen route, you may pass through Arraial d’Ajuda.
Driving to Trancoso from Other Cities in Bahia
If you're traveling by car from other cities in Bahia, you don't need to pass through Porto Seguro. Instead, head to Eunápolis and take the BR-367 until it connects with the BA-001, known in this stretch as the Trancoso Road. This route avoids the ferry crossing and shortens travel time.
Private Transport Options from Porto Seguro
For a quicker and more comfortable trip, choose Uber, taxi, or a private transfer from Porto Seguro Airport. The most economical option is Uber for up to four passengers. Taxis also for up to four people. Private transfers up to three passengers. It is not recommended to use unlicensed vans for passenger transport.
Driving Routes from Porto Seguro to Trancoso
There are two main driving routes from Porto Seguro to Trancoso. The first, 47 km (29 miles) in total, involves taking a ferry from Porto Seguro to Arraial d’Ajuda and then driving 22 km (14 miles) on a dirt road to Trancoso. The second route, which avoids the ferry, is 77 km (48 miles) long, starting on the BR-367 and continuing along the BA-001. However, this road has many potholes, so drive carefully to avoid damage to your car.
Porto Seguro Ferry to Arraial d’Ajuda/Trancoso
Crossing by ferry is straightforward. Simply join the queue, but note that during high season, the wait can be long. In such cases, the road route may be a better option. Ferry fares are collected in the queue, with differents costs on weekdays and on weekends and holidays for vehicles, including the driver. Additional passengers or pedestrians pay, one-way only.
Bus Travel to Trancoso
For those traveling without a car, the most affordable option is taking a bus from Arraial d’Ajuda. Start by reaching the Porto Seguro ferry terminal by taxi, Uber, or local bus. After crossing the ferry as a pedestrian, catch a bus to Trancoso, operated by Viação Águia Azul. Buses run hourly from 6:00 AM to 6:45 PM.
